Donna Bogatin writes a scathing editorial on Google CheckOut. I’ve not personally used CheckOut myself, so I can’t speak to many of the issues that she raises, but the situation certainly needs to be watched.

Rob Hof suggests that it’s too early for the criticism eBay is receiving over Google Checkout. He raises some very valid points. We’ll wait and see.
As expected, eBay has disallowed Google Checkout on eBay. Over the long run, this move could hurt eBay more than it hurts Google.

Frankly, the payments space could use a good shaking up. And Google Checkout looks like the way to do it!

The AdWords team chimes in on the Google Checkout announcement.
For every dollar spent on AdWords, a merchant will receive $10 of processing for free. Many merchants will find that extremely attractive.

Ok, perhaps it just seems like this blog is about nothing but Google Payments of late… In any case, Nik Cubrilovic has the best look at Google Payments that I’ve seen so far.
Bill reports that beta orders using GoogleBase and GoogleWallet show Google as the merchant of record. This is a substantial development with real legal implications. It suggests that Google plans to make a major play in the e-commerce space.

Business Week reports that Google is beta testing their payment system on GoogleBase. On a related note, Bill Burham predicts hard times ahead for eBay and PayPal.
